​Future Artefacts FM third episode featured Rebeca Romero’s piece ‘The New Worshipers (El Peregrinaje)’, a thirteen-minute audio work. Using tone, pacing and hypnotic sound loops as tools, the work lures the listener into Romero’s world. We follow the protagonist’s journey as they partake in a mysterious ritual. The work evokes a sense of liminality, transitioning the boundaries between humans and their environment while reflecting on hierarchies left by colonial legacies. It questions what searching for a life-changing experience in a commodified world can look like, breaking the binaries between myth and reality by unsettling singular world views.
